- 106, as of HMRC's software finder on 6 July 2026. The list grows as more vendors pass HMRC's recognition process, so the count changes over time.
- Are all of these free?
- No — 26 of the 106 offer a free version according to HMRC; the rest are paid. "Free version" also doesn't always mean free MTD filing (some free tiers cover bookkeeping only, or are free only with a particular bank account), so check before relying on it.
- Can all of them file my year-end tax return?
- Not yet. All 106 handle the quarterly updates, but HMRC lists only 60 as also covering the year-end tax return. If a tool is quarterly-only today, you'll need another route for the final step — this is common across the market while vendors finish building it.
- Why do you review only 34 of them in depth?
- Our reviews carry verified, VAT-inclusive prices checked against each vendor's own pricing page — that's only honest for tools we can actually verify, that an individual sole trader or landlord can buy directly. Many of the 106 are accountant-practice suites, industry-specific systems (farming, trades), or bank-app features. We add more as we verify them.
